Neither Lichfield council runs a New Year's Eve event or fireworks. The panto has matinees at 11am and 3pm, pubs take bookings, and last trains end early.

There is no public New Year’s Eve event in Lichfield: no council fireworks, no countdown in Market Square, and nothing in Burntwood either. Lichfield City Council’s published calendar ends its year with the Mayor’s Carols on 8 December, and Burntwood Town Council’s Christmas events page stops at its switch-ons in late November. Neither has a New Year’s Eve entry.

So New Year’s Eve here is a night out at a pub or restaurant, or a family afternoon at the panto. Here is what is published so far, and the one thing to plan round: getting home.

The quick answer

  • No public fireworks or countdown in Lichfield or Burntwood on 31 December.
  • Robin Hood, the Garrick pantomime, plays 11am and 3pm on New Year’s Eve, from £20.
  • Trains stop early. Last year the Cross-City line to Birmingham switched to buses from 10pm.

Daytime: the panto and the Studio show

The Lichfield Garrick’s box office lists these on Thursday 31 December 2026 (Lichfield Garrick):

Time Show Venue Price
11am Robin Hood (pantomime) Main Auditorium from £20
1pm A Shoddy Nativity Studio £25
3pm Robin Hood (pantomime) Main Auditorium from £20

There is no evening performance of either on New Year’s Eve, and the Garrick is dark on New Year’s Day. Full panto dates, cheap nights and the dark days are on our Lichfield pantomime page.

Evening: pubs and restaurants taking bookings

These venues have published New Year’s Eve 2026 pages. We list only what each one’s own page says.

  • The Holly Bush, Little Hay (WS14 0QA): a three-course New Year’s Eve menu for £37, a £5 a head deposit (children too), and menu pre-orders opening on 21 October 2026 (Chef and Brewer, Holly Bush).
  • The Hedgehog, Lichfield: a three-course New Year’s Eve menu with a glass of fizz at midnight. The page does not yet give a price (Vintage Inns, The Hedgehog).
  • Bar Home, 13 Bird Street (WS13 6PW): a New Year’s Eve party with music and a midnight countdown, booked through the pub (Bar Home Lichfield).
  • The Turnpike, Boley Park (WS14 9XU): open 12pm to 11pm on New Year’s Eve and 12pm to 8pm on New Year’s Day (The Turnpike).

Getting home

This is the part to plan. Last New Year’s Eve, West Midlands Railway stopped Cross-City trains between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley from 10pm and ran replacement buses, and the line did not reopen until 10am on New Year’s Day (West Midlands Railway festive guide). National Rail says trains on some routes will again finish early on 31 December 2026, with details to follow. Our Lichfield Christmas trains page will carry them as they are published.

Council car parks in the city centre are free from 6.30pm to 7.30am every day, so an evening in town costs nothing to park. Details on our parking in Lichfield page.

Fireworks at home

Private fireworks are allowed later than usual on New Year’s Eve: the legal curfew moves from 11pm to 1am (GOV.UK, fireworks: the law).

Still to be confirmed

  • The Hedgehog’s New Year’s Eve price, and any ticketed parties at larger venues.
  • Last train times, expected in late November or early December.

We will update this page in early December. For bonfire night displays, see Lichfield fireworks.
