A £5 morning workshop at Thomas Spencer Hall, Whittington, on Saturday 14 November, 9.45am to 1.30pm, with every penny going to St Giles Hospice. Book ahead.
A morning workshop on confidence, habits and communication is coming to Thomas Spencer Hall in Whittington on Saturday 14 November, running from 9.45am to 1.30pm. Tickets are £5, entry is by pre-booked ticket only, and all proceeds go to St Giles Hospice.
It is called Change Begins Here and is run by Jo Creed, an NLP trainer and coach who has recently moved to the area. Places are limited, and bookings are taken on the event page.
What the morning covers
In her own description of the session, Jo Creed calls it:
“A practical, interactive morning exploring how we think, feel, communicate and respond, including the patterns that can get in our way and the impact these can have on confidence, relationships and everyday life.”
NLP stands for neuro-linguistic programming. The leaflet sets out who the session is aimed at with a list of questions: overthinking things, falling back into the same patterns, holding yourself back or lacking confidence, not being able to get your point across, and reacting in ways you later wish you hadn’t.
According to the booking page, people will leave with:
- a clearer understanding of what may be getting in their way
- greater awareness of their own thinking and behaviour patterns
- two simple NLP techniques they can start using straight away
- practical ways to interrupt unhelpful thoughts and responses
- new ideas for thinking, feeling and responding differently
No previous knowledge of NLP is needed. “You won’t just be sitting and listening,” the page says. “The session will be interactive, practical and easy to apply, with opportunities to explore some of your own patterns and try out simple techniques for yourself.”
Why Whittington, and why St Giles
Jo Creed explains on the booking page that the event grew out of her move to the Midlands:
“Having recently moved to the area, I wanted to create an accessible local event where people from Whittington, Lichfield, Tamworth and the surrounding Staffordshire area can come together, learn something useful and experience NLP in a relaxed, friendly environment.”
On the choice of charity, she writes that because the workshop is in Whittington, “supporting a charity that is such an important part of the local community felt especially fitting.”
Her leaflet describes her as an award-winning NLP trainer, coach and behavioural change specialist. On the booking page she says she came to NLP with a background in human and business psychology, and has trained people across the NHS, the public sector, private organisations and independent businesses.
